If you don't believe the Bible is the Word of God, [or from God], then what are you basing your knowledge of God, [and His Will], on/by?
Also, what do you think happens after you die?

The same source as any other who chooses to base their views of the Bible......a simple BELIEF system.
----there is no actual proof that the course of events that were accounted in the Bible, or any otehr religious book for that matter are infact truth!!......they are only trust as some choose to believe it to be.
When ya really get down to it....nothing in the bible can actually be prooven by evidence left behind...there are no catastrophic events that happen now, as they did in 2000 millenia ago when the Bible was alledgly written and still share the same point of view from those people who lived during the time of 'Jesus" versus us today......so ALL of it really is based on one's perception and belief...no matter what form of religion or lack there of one chooses to understand and/or follow.
.......if ofcourse religion is as relevent as people make it to be.
----Where do we go after we die?
thats a question again left up to speculation, hope and sheer believe of an afterlife. Like the accounts in the Bible and every other book.....noone has come bac kfrom the Dead to tell the tale of the hereafter. So all we have here and now is mere belief.

it is my understanding that after we die our bodies go back to the dust of the earth and our souls go back to God. There is no reincarnation or folks going straight to hell or anything like that. We simply our "sleeping" until Christ returns to judge us all.

i question god more than not believing in him. i also believe that since
the bible is a collection of writings from eons ago that translations and
interpretations are very subjective.
i don't know what happens after you die except decomposing.

I believe that yes, but I don't know to what extent. Meaning after different translations and interpretations and all the years MAN has had to half duplicate or write what THEY want it to mean, I don't know about how much is the original word and how much of it has been altered.

Hi Ashanti, Here is my 2 cents:
First off Grinch if there is such a thing as reincarnation ( which I dont believe in btw) You would come back as a lower animal that would need love to survive lol!!
But seriously, by reading some of the answers and hearing other answers why they don't believe the majority reason I see is : Seeing is believing, there needs to be proof. That is one thing that we have learned in school.
I say a Christian has to unlearn some of the things we learned in school, I have seen so many things that cant be explained so what I learned in school i had to put that on the back burner.
The miracles I have seen, the sense of peace people have I mean that is not just coincedence that is God talking to us. God blessed me with so much for me not to believe in him. I truly believe with God all things are possible. I have seen people who have been cured from diseases such as Cancer, I have seen bills literaly disappear I have seen families been blessed. To me, how can it not be possible without God?

i'm saying i don't know because there's too many questions from me.
i've voiced my opinion on having people suffer then come thru for them
to believe in him. some say thats free will, but it sounds like manipulation.
i left the church in my 20s because i didn't feel any closer to enlightenment
then or when i first started going as a kid.
is there someone or something out there responsible for what we call life?
sure i believe that much.

See, I tole ya bruh....For many, if there is no external God, they become their own god, in their own mind....Yet they can't even stop a common cold, they have to shyt like everyone else, and they can't prevent one gray hair from growing out of their head. LOL....I would rather not be my own god, because I know I am quite useless in the realm.

welllll first off I DO NOT believe the bible is the word of God. I know the bible to be a book written by man (Godly inspired men in its early years). BUT when I did my NON-BIASED research I begin to see Mans influence in the Bible a whole lot clearer. One cannot truely understand the history of the Bible until he/she understands the origin of the religion it serves(something most BLACK Christians dont want to do OR are cool letting someone else do it for them (lets not be lazy folks we are talking about our spiritual belief system)) How many Christians can talk indept about the Council of Nicea of 323 A.D. or any of the other Ecumenical councils that shaped the religion and the book used, usually to bring about control. Why dont Christians seem to know or care about who King James is or the other authorizors/translators of the cannons that predate King James starting with Alexander the great who was the first to authorize the bible in Greek called the Septuagint. The others were the Pishita and the Vulgate that were the first translations of the new testament. The list goes on and on. Lets not begin to mention the many many parallels the bible has with many other older stories like the story of the great flood, the story Jesus himself is a story that predates him. There are truthes in the bible but it being the unaltered unadulterated untampered with word of GOD??? I doubt it.

I dont' mean to sound disrespectful CLA but how can you be dismissive of others opinions? You ask others opinions but then when given you laugh like they have no basis or right for feeling how they feel? If you don't agree with what others may see as a logical reasoning then give info to dispute what they are believing and not just with scriptures. Don't just laugh and brush them off, thats not Christian Behavior.

I knew someone would comment on that...
I didn't ask for anyone's opinion on the validity of the Bible, or why they do not believe in the Bible, so the answer was off topic, [it is obvious that the opinion was not unbias because he/she failed to answer the question[s] of the topic in his/her haste to discredit the scriptures]. I thought it was funny that he/she went off on a whole 'nother tangent...still do.
I was sincerely trying to fiqure out what people believe in, and what they based their belief on, not trying to add/delete validity to the Bible, or question why they don't believe the Bible. Don't remember quoting any scriptures either...
Nothing wrong with my Christian behavior, either...

Well your post asks "If you don't believe the Bible is the word of God then what are you basing your knowledge on...?" So you indeed ask what we do NOT believe in. And he never stated that his opinion was unbiased but ONLY his research was. His opinion is HIS opinion. His posting was based on his research he found regarding the scriptures and he's correct with his assessment that who's to say that the Bible that we know and have read has not been tampered through the years by others wanting to undermine the true intent in which it was written. Now can YOU CLA without a doubt say that there's NO CHANCE this can be true? And if so, then what proof do YOU have regarding that?

My mistake...whether it was his research, or opinion...his answer had nothing to do with the topic so it appears he was so anxious to discredit the Bible that he failed to answer the question so he went off topic, [as you are now].
I asked what one based their knowledge of God on, not why they did not believe in the Bible. My laughter had nothing to do with his opinion, I bolded what I was laughing about, [his unbias research]...and I am entitled to my opinion as well...
Noc...I do not debate the truth of the Bible with people, either they believe it, or they don't. If they believe the scriptures as truth, then we can discuss from there. If not, then there is no discussion, and I leave them to whatever it is that they do believe in. I have found the scriptures to be truth, and that is what I live by.
This thread was not to convince anyone of anything, just to see where people are.
Blessings...

I'm not off topic and I answered your question earlier. So you're saying that you don't deem discussion is necessary if they don't believe the scriptures? Well why wouldn't discussion be necessary if they are trying their hardest to wanna know if everything in the Bible is truthful or not? Aren't we as Christians suppose to help others in search of enlightenment and understanding. We can post thread after thread about how others need to live and what others need to do but how can they truly understand the Biblical concept if they truly have doubts with what the Bible teaches and nobody can give them alternative articles or any other study guides, documentation to help them understand and comprehend?

Brother stated he did extensive research, and found the Bible to not be the Word of God. I also did extensive research in my desire to know God, and He sent me to His Bible then in obeying it, and in that He revealed Himself and His Word as truth. If God did not choose to reveal Himself to this brother, what can I say? You will find what you are truly seeking...God knows the heart, [isn't that what is always said]...
People have sent years discrediting the Bible, this is nothing new, and I do not have time to debate every argument, that is not "spreading the Gospel".
The only thing I tell people who do not believe the Bible is to go to God for themselves, if their hearts are sincere then He will reveal Himself, and convince them. You will either believe, or you won't...
Jesus told people to follow Him, and never turned around to see if they were. He spoke in parables because He knew only those who really wanted to know would seek the truth in them. He said you will find Him when you seek after Him with all your heart, soul, and mind.
If you are seeking Truth, you will find Him, if you are seeking to discredit His Truth, you will find that as well. People want Jesus to convince them, He died a horrible death on a rugged cross, went to hell before rising again...He will do nothing more...and I can't do anything more.
The rest is on you...

my thing is this:
did the torah and the dead sea scrolls fall out of the heavens whole and already written?
NO of course not
so no matter WHAT you believe, logic holds that since man is imperfect, and MEN wrote those stories... AT THE THE VERY LEAST the message passed through some imperfect vessels
and when anything passes through impure vessels the impurities leech into it
so there's no possible way The Bible is the untouched Word of God.
and if you think otherwise, we're on so far a different level of logic as to defy communication. I won't change your mind and you won't change mine.

Not only that, but there are some words that are lost in translation. It's not important that every word be accounted for, but that the meat of the matter is preserved to be of great benefit. I don't think it is very likely that a man willing to die (even as some have), to relay the message for mankind would willingly poison or contort that which he was given to do - seeing as how he did not want for the things of this world in the first place.
That would defy logic in my mind. If a man does not care for the things of this world (as God cautions any that would serve him), then the world has no choke hold on him, or his heart....No motive. They had nothing to gain, and everything (of this world) to loose by preserving, copying, and translating that which was written for all men to read...And many were killed because of their persistence and life long dedication to the task at hand.
Perhaps that's why it's the masterpiece that it is, or maybe more accurately, a piece of the Master. For me, the question is not how impurely touched the message may or may not be....The real issue is, that even as it is presented, men find a way to interpret it for their own motives and agendas. As we see men prostituting the scriptures today in the church - for their own benefit.
Which makes scripture and the study of it so crucial and beneficial for anyone who desires to have spiritual enlightenment. But people would rather go to church and have someone tell them what it means, what it says, than to read for themselves....And that is the true corruption of it all.
and if you think otherwise, we're on so far a different level of logic as to defy communication. I won't change your mind and you won't change mine. so discussions like this only go but so far.
I disagree. We are not so far off that we defy communication. I understand exactly what you are saying, and I see your logic in what you are saying. We enjoy pure, clean, sparkling water today...It's all bottled. But there was a time when we could only get water from the tap, and it served it's purpose....We need water. My grandparents drank water straight out of the ground, sometimes from a spring. Maybe it wasn't as pure as the water we buy today...But it's still water, after all.
