Okay bibliophiles...what's your preference between the two? Are books making way for the new technology, meaning that possibly books could become a thing of the past?

you mean could paper become a thing of the past?
e.g. i've read all the Harry Potter "books" but never held a copy in my hand.

i hope not. i love the idea of holding a book in my hand. folding the pages to keep my place. all this technology is the debil. lol

I like the idea of carrying around a few books, but not being able to turn down the corner or stick a funky or funny bookmark inside...iono y'all.
Technology is lots of fun, but at will it kill the bookstore? Will bookstores become those places where you go to rekindle your love affair with the handheld, soft or hardcover book? Kids won't know the joys of holding one in your hands anticipating how good it might be. Then the trips to the bookstore and a couch or chair to check out a few good ones won't be necessary anymore.
I listen to a podcast where these two professors talk about a lot of different things. One said he is teaching two classes next fall and both don't have textbooks, everything is all online and it's not that Blackboard ish either lol. He also said that there are some colleges that are requiring that professors to only use books that are downloadable.....you see where this is headed?

books feel wonderful when they are brand spanking new and then when you finish them, they look well read...depending on how long it took lol.

A lot of the documents I read at work are electronic but I prefer paper. I still print stuff, lol. I have no interest in the Kindle.

books can't really be reclaimed. destroying books is akin to
sacrilege.

Digital media will never take the place of books for me...the beauty of books comes with age...yellowed pages, dog eared corners of your favorite passages, textbooks highligted with insightful notes you've long forgotten, the voice and accents that only you only you can hear in your head as you read...all that beauty if lost digitally IMO
