Heiroglyphics outside the pyramids at Saqqara:
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/melitaki9/IMG_0156.jpg

This is the tunnel to go into the pyramid. It's less than 4 feet in height:
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/melitaki9/IMG_0153.jpg

Hieroglyphics inside. I wasn't supposed to take this pic and got yelled at by the fake guard wanting me to tip him, but...how cool is this?!!

More hieroglyphics outside the pyramid.

Pyramids at Dashur. The one on the right is the 2nd largest pyramid. Only the great Pyramid in Giza is larger:

Pyramid at Saqqara. This step pyramid was the style prior to the pyramids we are familiar with:

The Sphinx. It's stunning to look at:
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/melitaki9/IMG_0131.jpg

I guess it's the desert and they don't have water fountains....

These were all taken at the Sound and Light show. It seems like a tourist trap, but it was pretty neat. Plus, I had been in Egypt 2 hours and this was the only thing I wanted to do at night. This is Akhenamet, husband to Nefertiti:http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/melitaki9/IMG_0069.jpg

One of the pyramids:

The 3 main pyramids:

The Sphinx...sorry, it's a bit blurry:

NICE!!! That's the thing with belly dancers, hair is a prop so many will have hair down to their butts! OMG you got to see whirling dervishes! I have always wanted to see them live bc there's something about whirling that even pulls the viewer in. It's supposed to empty them of all distracting thoughts allowing them to go into a trance-like state avoiding dizziness. That's why they can whirl for so long. It's euphoric lol. I can spin for about 2-3 mins (not whirl) then I've gotta come out of it lol. Remember whirling in circles as a kid? It felt good, right? That's that euphoric/dizzy feeling lol.

Your pics are wonderful. I stopped at the belly dancer and dervish to post this, but I am enjoying them and will continue looking. I am happy that you enjoyed yourself and you were away for your birthday! I know it will be memorable.

@ Keyser: You already know...:sunny3: LOL

@ ChocCity: I saw the Dervish dancers in Istanbul, but they are different...still amazing, just different. The normal size dancer spoke damn near every language. He went around to every table and had conversations with everybody in their home language. He knew more Chinese than Greek, though. He spoke to the Chinese girl at my table for a few minutes. I was impressed.

I am always impressed when others know more than 2 languages...utterly amazing to me. LMAO @ the normal sized dancer!

Aparently, the Dervish thing started in Persia, so I guess it's like belly dance, you'll find so many types - Egyptian, Turkish, Greek, Morrocan and American tribal style, there are similarities but once you watch them you can pick up on the differences. I think it's wonderful that those dances spread like they did. I like watching ATS american tribal style, but I'd never want to study it bc it's a bastardized version of bellydance. Americans tend to need to do that, they've even branched off into burlesque belly dance :boo: lol

Thanks guys, but for all that want to get to Egypt: stay in Cairo no more than 2 days then get the hell out! I didn't care for this trip, at all. Other than the pyramids, everything else is a tourist trap...even the museum was a disappointment. It wasn't only me that said it. I met this cute couple from S.Africa, they didn't care for it; my last night there I met a girl and her pastor (a whole congregation from Indiana)...she said the same thing. I get back and an entire group of people I just met had gotten back from there the day before....they didn't like it either. There are definitely some parts that are amazing, but I would recommend getting out of the city for sure.

Get to the Red Sea where the beaches are supposedly phenomenal! The group I was talking about that I met had just got back from there and said it was amazing. One guy bought an underwater camera just b/c of the ocean life you can see close to shore. The Red Sea in Egypt is known for its diving, though. I had a friend who went years ago and couldn't go on a dive b/c there were "too many sharks in the water." For me, 1 is too many sharks :rolling: But just to give you an idea....

The Parthenon at night...my favorite site:

They found this when they were building the new Acropolis museum. Inside the museum are glass floors so you can see everything inside, as well. You just see all sorts of old ceramic pieces thrown about. It's pretty neat!:
